Troubleshooting A Poor Fuel Pump Inside A Dodge

Launch by verifying that the Dodge has a fuel problem. Also, a fuel problem does not always mean that the fuel pump in a Dodge is bad. Locate the Schraeder valve on the fuel rail. Take the cap off and install a fuel-pressure tester. If there is power to the pump, it is obviously a bad fuel pump. If not, the wiring between the relay and the fuel pump is faulty. It is worth mentioning that most technicians, for expediency, simply take a can of carburetor cleaner out to check if the problem is fuel-related. Just spray some carburetor cleaner into the intake manifold and try to start the vehicle.

The fuel-pump relay is located in the relay center under the hood and is clearly marked. With the key off, there should be power at one of the terminals. With the key on, there should be two terminals that have power. Mark the terminals if necessary so that you remember which terminal has power. Check the remaining two terminals for ground. Put the red lead of the ohmmeter into one of the terminals and touch the black lead to a good ground. Ground will be shown if there is continuity (ohmmeter does not read 0). There should be ground on one of the terminals. If no ground is found or there was not power to two terminals a wiring problem exits.

Once the ground terminal is identified, jump the terminal that had power with the key off to the terminal that was not grounded and had no power (using a jumper wire). This is the terminal to the fuel pump. With these terminals jumped try to start the vehicle. If it starts, the relay is bad and needs to be replaced. If the vehicle still will not start, insert the relay back into its location and raise the vehicle enough to get under the fuel tank.

Disconnect the fuel-pump harness, which is located on the back side of the fuel tank toward the rear of the vehicle. Use a voltmeter and test the harness side for power when a helper cycles the key. Remember that there will be power for only two seconds at a time. Since the computer does not see the engine turning, it shuts the fuel pump down. Just have the helper cycle the key on for five seconds and off for five seconds while the harness is tested.

Turn the key on and check the pressure. It should be 49 psi. If there is pressure, the problem is elsewhere. If there is no pressure, disconnect the fuel-pressure gauge and test the fuel-pump relay. If it starts for a second or two, the problem is a bad fuel pump, and if it does not, some other problem is present.

Troubleshooting A Ford Ignition Module

Introduction

It can also cause a bad miss on an erratic basis.

Diagnosing the Module

If ignition problems are experienced, the first thing to do is to install a timing light and watch for an irregular spark. On some trucks and cars in the 1990s, the module was located on the radiator help housing within a heat sink. It contains solid society components encased in a thick undarkened electrolytic movie. Its leading speck is to packages the hall-effect expression indicating top dead centre on the digit one cylinder to the electronic engine force (EEC-IV).

The pc then takes the expression and the pulse degree and determines the rpm. The pc sends a word to the control module when to glow the coil. The control module automatically controls the dwell for sufficient saturation of the coil windings to convey the Correct Glimmer existence habituated the rpm in de facto duration without creating undue heat. It and monitors irregular or missed firing counts and Testament locate a code provided a failure is looming.

On the contrary, this does not always assignment properly. There retain been many problems with this operation, stemming from heat saturation, cracking and a horde of problems after a space of servicing.

Failure

The modules Testament fail once they hog absorbed as well still heat or for event problems. When this happens the vehicle Testament stall and holding a room of extent for a successful restart after the heat has dissipated.Ford used the TFI ignition module (thick movie ignition) on vehicles from 1983 buttoned up the mid-1990s by oneself. The vehicles that used this module had a conventional hall-effect distributor with a seperate coil. The TFI module was located on a Apartment lodgings nature on the pattern of the distributor.

If there is, check the plugs. If the plugs are alright, the module should be replaced. They are not expensive, however, they require a small special tool to remove the torx screws in the module housing. If there was no misfire, but the vehicle is hard to begin or stalls, the module should be inspected and replaced if found to be faulty.

The module should be removed and checked for cracking around the torx screw mounting surface. There should be a thick film of dielectric grease on the back metal side of the module. This layer of grease keeps the heat off of the module. If the module looks OK but the grease is depleted, it should be replaced and the module can be tried again by using the timing light for steady spark.

The PIP signal should also be checked. The top wire on the connector is used to check for PIP. Use a voltmeter and look for pulsing with the engine running. The pulsing means the wire from the computer to the ignition control module is good and the computer is working. If it is working, the module is bad. If no pulsing is noted, check the third terminal down for pulses to the computer. It would be wise to replace these modules every 30,000 miles as a preventative maintenance procedure considering the amount of failures and the relatively low cost versus the aggravation should a failure occur. The modules have never been modified so the new will only last as long as the old one.

Alter The Starter Inside A Toyota 4runner

Popular automotive starter with on-starter solenoid.

Most Toyota 4Runners carry the starter motor mounted to one side of the engine along the lower nature, as most vehicles bring about. Nevertheless, the Toyota 4Runner with the 2UZ-FE engine has the starter mounted on top between the two cylinder banks. To alternate the unit on this representation, you Testament posses to remove the intake manifold. Grasp in brainpower that this procedure applies to all 4Runners apart from the 2UZ-FE mould.

Stop Wipers From Skidding Around The Car windows

Stop Wipers From Skidding on the Windscreen

Spray a liberal amount of a foam-based glass cleaner (available from any auto parts store) on the windshield and the wipers.4. Wipe the wipers and the windshield down with a soft, clean cloth, being careful to remove all traces of dirt, bird droppings, tree sap or other debris on the glass or the wipers. Return the wipers to their normal position against the windshield. Cleaning both is usually Sufficiently to end the skidding.

Instructions

1. Pull the wiper arms absent from the windscreen until they lock in a vertical position.

2. Unrestrained away any loose debris in the wiper's path.

3.Your windscreen wipers should be checked every six months. Any signs of Degeneration is basis for replacement. Wipers that skid across the windscreen can argument wiper "chatter," a action where the wiper blade shudders as it skids across the windscreen. This is recurrently caused by a smear wiper blade or windscreen.

Determine If Your Brakes Are Shot

The salient and probably persist indicator of a brake complication is when your motorcar fails to check and ploughs into a bell Perch. But, a bit of careful diagnosis and some casual meaning can support you to troubleshoot brake problems hardy before they grasp a terminal process.

Squealing

Squealing is probably the most universal indicator of impending brake problems. Brake pads further a babyish metal tab arched at a 90-degree angle to the pad backing plate to clue in the Chauffeur of impending pad failure. This "squealer bar" contacts the rotor when the pad data wears down to approximately 20 percent of its autochthonous thickness. Provided you hear an ear-piercing shriek when you hit your brakes, then it's a congenial wager the pads are worn down to the squealer bars. Whether this is the plight, then you demand to change the pads as soon as imaginable, in that not by oneself are the pads worn down to insignificancy, nevertheless the squealer bar itself can damage the rotor.

Excessively worn brake pads or pads "glazed" from overheating Testament also increase stopping distances.

Pedal Too Firm

This can only be one of two things; either the power-assist unit isn't working because of an internal failure or vacuum leak, or there's some sort of obstruction in your brake line. The latter may arise from a chunk of rust or rubber working loose and lodging in the line, but odds are better that the line is simply pinched somewhere.

Lack of Stopping Power

Provided you floor the brakes and they don't seem to slow the machine down the bag they should, then you may gain one or extra problems. Low brake fluid Testament create a deprivation of stopping authority, as Testament imbue and air in the brake manner and a malfunctioning capacity brake booster mechanism. Provided your brakes seem to reply to a brief stab at the brake pedal, nevertheless slowly sink to the floor afterward, then chances are that you compass a wick brake skilled cylinder.

Such problems will generally occur either in the lines going to one wheel or one axle, which will make the others inclined to lock up or pull the car to one side under application.

Vibration in the Pedal

A warped brake disc pull causes pulsation in the pedal by shoving the brake caliper piston into the caliper once per revolution. Oil or other contaminants in the brake pads may cause the brakes to constantly grab and release, which feels something like a random vibration in the pedal. Bear in mind that a bad alignment, suspension wear and a bad wheel bearing can also cause vibration under braking. In these latter cases, vibration will typically come up through the steering wheel rather than the brake pedal.

Brakes Dragging

After you release pressure on the braking system by lifting your foot off the pedal, the pistons in the brake calipers are supposed to retract slightly and allow the wheel to spin freely. A bad caliper, slave cylinder piston or piston seal may keep the brake applied in the "On" position even after you release the pressure. This will typically manifest as brake dragging on one wheel, which will typically pull the car in one direction or the other. Simultaneous caliper failure is rare, so if more than one wheel starts to drag, then you may have developed an obstruction somewhere in the line.

Find Tdc On A Respected Cylinder

Catch the unit one Glimmer plug elsewhere.

Finding top dead centre, or TDC, on the character one cylinder is a relatively straightforward effort. On a four-cycle engine, Everyone piston reaches TDC twice in a combustion cycle--once extreme of the compression stroke, and once behind of the exhaust stroke. We can bonanza TDC easily Sufficiently by simply aligning the TDC purpose (the 0 measure objective) on the crankshaft damper with the timing pointer; nevertheless, this doesn't tell us if the engine is on the compression stroke or the exhaust stroke. Usually we're concerned with finding TDC behind of the compression stroke. The number one plug varies; consult a shop manual for your engine to identify the number one cylinder.3. Attach the remote starter switch to the positive terminal on the battery and the switch terminal (the smaller terminal) on the car's starter.

Remove the coil wire to prevent the engine from starting.

2. Remove the number one spark plug. The process of finding TDC extreme of the compression stroke is called "dead timing" the engine.

Instructions

1.

4. Hold your thumb over the spark plug hole, crank the engine using the remote starter switch. You'll feel pressure build up as the piston nears TDC. When the pressure reaches its peak, the piston is at TDC. Release the remote starter switch.

5. Align the TDC mark on the crankshaft damper with the timing pointer, using the wrench and crankshaft socket.

You may also want to determine who is responsible for the cost of shipping the car, if necessary.

If not, the owner may need to ship the car.

Fight An Unfair Mechanics Lien

A mechanics lien is a legal disclose false by a contractor, subcontractor or supplier of building materials with whom you get contracted to perform assignment on either essential Belongings (corporal estate) or personal Belongings (a machine) when a occupation arises regarding fee. Esteem of a lien comparable the legal animation a bank takes when it loans you resources for a morgage. The bank places a lien against the naked truth to the Belongings that serves as collateral until the loan has been paid. The duplicate perception applies to mechanics liens, though the course of filing and disputing them differ from mortgages, and laws that grant you to contest mechanics liens vary from government to management. If the judge finds that the terms of the contract were met, he will likely order you to pay the outstanding amount due on the contract plus court costs. Once the conditions of the ruling are met, the mechanics lien will be removed.

Extend Glow Time With Vagcom

The old-fashioned system to begin a arctic machine engine is to plug a charger into the wall and then connect the charger to an ignition plug. On the other hand dissimilar technologies such as VAG-COM concede you to flame the glow plug using controls from your laptop. VAG-COM is a third-party car diagnostic software from Microsoft that is compatible with several models of Volkswagen passenger cars. The software diagnoses several problems, including ignition issues. The default settings on VAG-COM keep the ignition plug glow time to a minimum; however, in extremely cold weather, you may need to extend the glow time to charge the car battery. The newer version of VAG-COM is called VCDS (VAG-COM Diagnostic System).

Instructions

1. Make sure it's not a chronic case of being unable to start your car with the initial voltage. If you have frequent cold start problems, extending the glow time won't remedy a more serious underlying issue. Typically, you'll have to extend the glow time for a car resting in very cold weather or at higher altitudes.

2. Connect to VAG-COM. First, you should have the VAG-COM diagnostic software installed on your laptop. You should also have a USB cable (1.1 or 1.2) to connect from your laptop to your car. Plug one end of the cable into your laptop and the other into a plug located below the dashboard on the driver's end of the car.

3. Turn on the car ignition key. Once you turn on the key, the VAG-COM controller window should appear on your laptop screen.

4. Log in to the VAG-COM controller. You should have a five-digit code to log in.

5. Click on "Adapter" and go to "group 12."

6. Change the adapter value. Change the value to bring it closer but never below 32700.7. Turn off the ignition key and turn it back on. Go back to the adapter dialog box. In the adapter controller dialog box, there are two values you should keep an eye on. First, make a note of the value registered in the box titled "no. of units," which represents the glow time. The default value is usually between one and two seconds. Second, you should find a text box with the title "new value." The default value in the "new value" box will be 32768.

The value for "no. of units" should now be higher than the previous value. Keep lowering the adapter or "new value" closer but never below 32700 to extend the glow time. Typically, an ignition plug glow time of three seconds is sufficient to start a car.
