Instructions
1. See Resources for a list of service sticker locations by GM make and model.2. Find the bottom-most letters and numbers of the left side of the sticker. Set the servicing parts identification sticker for your Public Motors vehicle. This is a clear rectangular term, clearly recognizeable with "Work PARTS IDENTIFICATION, DO NOT REMOVE," that may be located in any number of places. Start by checking inside the glove box, on the door pillars, underneath the driver seat and inside the spare tire cover.
Disregard both the BC/CC at the beginning of the row and the three characters remain of the row, and read the code or codes between them, which are your paint codes. Each code will usually start with either U, WA, or L, followed by four numbers or a combination of four numbers and letters. You may see two codes, one beginning with U or WA, the other with L.
3. Decipher the paint codes as follows: If there's only one paint code it represents the paint color for the entire vehicle and the preceding U, WA or L is irrelevant. The four characters after these letters designate your paint color. If you see more than one paint code, the characters immediately after U or WA represent the upper color, while the characters after L represent the lower color in a two-tone paint job.
4. Use the paint code you deciphered--the four characters following the U, WA or L designation--to order touch up, spray, or automotive paint that matches the paint already on your vehicle. You can order such paints directly from your local GMC dealer or from paint suppliers like Automotive Touch Up.
