2003 Saturn Ion Information

The Saturn Ion was the fourth example to come from the contemporary automobile manufacturer. Built from 2003 until 2007, it had a model short Industry flow with equal under 6,000 Saturn Ions aged in five senility. It saying three makeovers since age.


History


The Saturn Ion was Saturn's fourth representation. Saturn Partnership was formed by Typical Motors to reply to the benefit of Japanese automakers in the U.S. marketplace. Started on Jan 7th, 1985, the association used the motto, "Saturn, a discrepant big of business, a different kind of automobile". Saturn is scheduled to close its doors in Oct 2010 after a proffer was rescinded by Penske Automotive to get the society in September 2009. As of October 1st, 2009, Saturn has ceased production of new vehicles.


Engine


Both came equipped with the same engine, but the 2003 Saturn Ion Coupe was equipped with a CVT, or continuously variable transmission. One could expect around 29 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway using the manual gearbox or 25/32 with the automatic or CVT.

Safety



The 2003 Saturn Ion came with a 2.2-liter, four-cylinder engine producing 140 hp at 5,800RPM and 145 ft-lbs of torque. A 5-speed manual gearbox was standard on the Ion, with an optional 5-speed automatic transmission available.

Styles

The 2003 Saturn Ion was available as a four-door sedan and a quad-door coupe.



The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the 2003 Saturn Ion a rating of "Acceptable" for frontal crash test rating, however, a it had a "Poor" rating for side impact crash test ratings. This safety rating greatly affected sales of the 2003 Saturn Ion.


Reviews


Edmunds.com staff were not all that thrilled with the 2003 Saturn Ion, saying, "Built to compete among the small Asian vehicles, the less impressive domestic Ion will have a tough time with this segment's leading contenders."
