Develop A 350 Drag Motor

Though most V-8 engines used for powering cars down a drag strip are extensive blocks, the repeatedly overlooked detail is that mini blocks constitute enormous powerplants for drag racing also. With the eminent magnitude of torque and exceptional throttle response, the mini block 350 Chevy can be converted into a high-performance drag Engine. The meeting is straightforward, on the other hand you Testament extremity diverse definite tools and a Disinfected workspace. Cause with a short block establish to top-dead centre that has been baking tanked and magnafluxed, with Shod pistons and crankshaft already installed by a appliance shop.

Instructions

The camshaft Testament seat itself to the back distributor timing gear in the block. Lube Everyone of the 16 solid lifters, and install Everyone one into the sockets along the top of the block. The camshaft should facet a centerline profile of 105 to 109 degrees of separation.2.1. Operate camshaft lube (included with the cam) to Everyone lobe and almanac of the camshaft. Involve the cam into the top gap on the front of the 350, turning the shaft clockwise while pushing it in.

Thread au courant sense bolts into the block on the face of Everyone cylinder deck. Dwelling a intellect gasket onto the block, sliding Everyone one ended the mind bolts. Slide Everyone cylinder tendency into accommodation. Advantage cylinder heads with dwarf combustion chambers to accession the influence of spark. For a 350, 60-64cc combustion chambers will work, but no larger. Torque cylinder heads to specifications, which is generally 90 ft. lbs. Some cylinder head manufacturers require different torque specs, though, so consult installation instructions. Insert the pushrods from the camshaft kit through the cylinder heads until they seat with the solid lifters. Bolt each valve cover onto each cylinder head. Place intake manifold gaskets onto the top inflow ports of each head.

3. Cap off the mechanical fuel pump slot on the front right of the block, as you will want to use an electric fuel delivery system. Two bolts, a gasket and a metal plate will suffice.

4. Install the bottom ring of the timing gear set to the end of the crankshaft on the front of the block. Make sure that the dot on the ring is pointing in the 12 o'clock position. Bolt the top timing gear to the front of the camshaft, ensuring that the dot is pointing to the 6 o'clock position. The two dots should be perfectly aligned with the engine at top-dead center. Place the twin-gear assembly between the top and bottom timing gears, and bolt it into place. Place the timing cover to the front of the engine.

5. Bolt in a light, aluminum single plane intake manifold that can flow air and fuel into the heads efficiently. For drag racing applications, dual plane manifolds will not flow well enough. Fasten each bolt along the perimeter of the manifold. Torque to specifications of the manufacturer.
