Change An Oxygen Sensor Inside A 2005 Jeep 3 7l

Modify an O2 Sensor in a 2005 Jeep 3.7L

The 2005 Jeep 3.7-liter engine is in truth a Chrysler 3.7-liter and can be constitute in the Jeep Freedom, Grand Cherokee and Jeep Commander vehicles. The upstream O2 sensors on these engines are located in the exhaust manifold honorable above the flange where the exhaust downspout bolts to the manifold. The downstream O2 sensor is located in the exhaust tube between the manifold and the catalytic converter. The speck varies slightly from example to replica, however the regular stop is the corresponding.

Instructions

1. Stand the front site of your Jeep with a jack and position a fix of jack stands under the frame to brace the Jeep. Remove the jack from under the Jeep so you are not trying to duty sorrounding it.

Whether you are working on the downstream sensor, it is in the exhaust decent in front of the catalytic converter.3. Select the appropriate sensor and disconnect the electrical connector that joins the pigtail from the oxygen sensor to the wiring harness on the Jeep. Release the locking tab and pull the two connectors apart.2. Establish the O2 sensor from under the Jeep. Whether you are working on the upstream sensor, you Testament acquisition it in the exhaust manifold.

4. Remove the oxygen sensor using an oxygen sensor socket and ratchet, turning it counterclockwise until it is free of the manifold or exhaust pipe. Discard the old sensor and thread a new sensor into the manifold or exhaust pipe by hand. Tighten the sensor with an oxygen sensor socket and ratchet until it is secure.

5. Plug the connector from the oxygen sensor pigtail into the wiring harness connector, pushing the two halves together until the locking tab engages. Be careful to route the wiring pigtail away from the hot exhaust pipes when you install it.

6. Repeat the process to change any of the other three oxygen sensors on the Jeep. If you are not sure which ones are bad, have the computer scanned for trouble codes to narrow it down before you start the job.

7. Raise the front of the Jeep with a jack off the jack stands and remove them from under the frame. Lower the Jeep to the ground and remove the jack.
