Painting Chrome Firebird Rims

Allow the rims to dry before removing the masking tape or putting the rims on the car.

6. Sand the rims with 120 grit sand paper until the surface of the rim is dull. You can use a dual action sander for the flat areas of the rim, but use your hand to get in the corners and between the "arms" of the rim.
7. Use newspaper and masking tape to cover the tires. Slide the edge of the newspaper and tape under the edge of the rim so that the tire is completely sealed away from the rim. Place tape over the valve stem to protect the cap from becoming stuck.
8. Wipe the rims with wax and grease remover and a lint-free towel. The clear paint protects the paint from UV rays and small scratches and chips.
