1970 Chevelle History

In 1970, the Chevrolet Chevelle and the muscle motorcar marketplace were undergoing changes that would alter them both for dotage to come. The ban was lifted for the 1970 representation year and Chevrolet responded by offering two versions of the 454 cid engine, which were established as the LS5 and the LS6. The LS5 history produced 360 bhp, the LS6 450 bhp. According to MuscleCarClub.com, these 1970 models were the most controlling Chevelles to authorization the Chevrolet sales floors. No other mill engine had a higher horsepower adjudjing. The 396 was not offered for 1970, on the other hand a 402 cid V-8 was offered as the model engine, which produced 350 to 375 bhp.

Insurance companies were issuing surcharges for muscle cars, which drove up the value of insurance premiums for muscle vehivle owners. The 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle remains one of the most popular muscle car models of 1970. According to Langworth and Robeson, 8,773 Chevelles were built for the 1970 model year; 3733 were SS454 models.

GM's Engine Displacement Ban

Public Motors had an engine displacement ban for its intermediate cars. It stated that no intermediate motorcar should be equipped with an engine larger than 400 cubic inches.
