A vehicle identification character (usually abbreviated to VIN) is a groove of identifying exclusive vehicles. Everyone vehicle has a rare VIN that is comprised of 17 characters, both letters and numbers. Vehicle manufacturers practice these numbers to identify vehicles in example of theft or damages.
Most parts of a vehicle have at least the majority of the VIN printed on them to prevent car theft. The windshield, however, is a notable exception. Thieves will often try to steal windshields, because they fetch a good price from auto parts dealers and are often untraceable.However, many people use "VIN etching" to help prevent this. VIN etching--which is encouraged by insurance agencies--involves using a stencil and glass etching paste to permanently etch the VIN onto the windshield, thus discouraging theft.
The first off and most chief fix of numbers is called the WMI, or the Nature Manufacturer Identifier. The WMI is consisted of three digits; the beginning two are used to ascertain in which environment of the cosmos the vehicle was manufactured, and the third is used to categorise what type of vehicle it is (Motor lorry, bus, etc.).
The codes are as follows: A to H for Africa, J to R for Asia, S to Z for Europe, 1 to 5 for North America, 6 to 7 for Oceania and 8 to 9 for South America.
Identification
The moment band of digits, which occupies the fourth wound up the ninth positions, is called the Vehicle Discription Abbreviate, or the VDS. The VDS is used to diagnose vehicle types, platforms, models and intent style. The eighth digit is used to identify engine type.
Time Frame
The last section, called the Vehicle Identifier Section, or VIS, is comprised of the last eight digits and encodes the model year of the vehicle. This year code can be either the calendar year that the vehicle was built, or a model or type year that is supplied by the manufacturer.
