1973 Ford 302 Specs

The 1975 Ford 302 is a carbureted V8 engine. Fully repairing an older 302 engine typically requires tearing it down and rebuilding it. Engine rebuilds repeatedly demand calibrating the discrepant components of the engine, which requires as well finite measurements. Engine specifications constitute the valves, piston and rings, crankshaft, camshaft and torque specifications.

Stem width is .34195 inch on the intake and .34145 inch on the exhaust. Piston to Muzzle clearance is .0018 to .0026 inch with top and backside compression at .0020 to .0040 inch. The call orifice is .0100 to .0200 inch for top and backside with .015 to .069 inch for the oil domination.

Valves, Pistons and Rings

The valves sit at an angle of 45 degrees with the face angle at 44 degrees. Spring comp coercion is 200 lb. at 1.310 inches with a heighth of 1.69 inches. The stem to controller clearance on the intake is .00185 inch and .00235 inch on the exhaust.

Crankshaft and Camshaft

The leading bearings own a funny book calibre of 2.2482 to 2.2490 inches and oil clearance of .0005 to .0015 inch. Shaft end play is .004 to .008 inch with thrust on piston number 3. The connecting rod has a journal diameter of 2.1228 to 2.1236 inches with oil clearance at .0008 to .0015 inch. Side clearance on the connecting rod is .010 to .020 inch. The camshaft calls for journal diameters on number 1 at 2.0805 to 2.0815 inches, number 2 at 2.0655 to 2.0665 inches, number 3 at 2.0505 to 2.0515 inches, number 4 at 2.0355 to 2.0365 inches, and number 5 at 2.0205 to 2.0215 inches. The bearing clearance is .001 to .003 inch.

Torque Specifications

The 302 cylinder head bolts use 65 to 72 lb. of torque. The rod bearing bolts use 19 to 24 lb. and the main bearing bolts use 60 to 70 lb. The crankshaft pulley calls for between 70 and 90 lb. of torque, whereas the flywheel to crankshaft bolts need 75 to 85 lb. The intake and exhaust manifolds use 20 lb. of torque.
