7. Finish the dent repair by lightly sanding the area with 1000-grit sandpaper to remove any rust that may have formed due to water exposure.


8. Spread body filler over the dented area with a plastic spreader. Fill in the dented area completely. Form the top level of the filler with the spreader to match the original contours of your gas tank as closely as possible. Let the filler sit to dry.


9. Apply either acrylic enamel or polyurethane paint to the repaired dent. (Polyurethane is more expensive, but will provide a glossier finish than acrylic enamel.) Allow the paint to dry for at least a few hours.
