Japanese machine manufacturer Mazda sold the Mazda 626 from 1979 to 2002 before it was discontinued in the United States. The first two generations of vehicles were compact cars, but the final generations served as midsized vehicles.
Significance
The Mazda 626 first appeared in 1979 and received favorable reviews from Car and Driver magazine.The Mazda was expanded from a compact vehicle to a midsize in 1988. The five-speed, four-speed and three-speed (automatic) engine options were offered as well as the option of a two-door coupe or four-door sedan, and later a five-door hatchback.
