Transform the Starter on a 1996 Chevy S10 Blazer


Chevrolet equipped their 1996 model-year S-10 Blazer with a one-piece, brush operated 12-volt starter Engine with attached solenoid. The ignition switch sends low-amperage voltage buttoned up the starter relay and to the starter solenoid. The solenoid energizes and sends high-amperage influence to the starter Engine, which causes the starter Engine to rotate and engage the engine flywheel with the Bendix clutch. Instructions

Starter Installation

5. Remove the bolts holding the bracing rod to the clutch housing and the engine with a wrench. Blop the brace outside from the starter Engine.


6. Grasp the heat shield on the solenoid and remove it by artisan. Remove the solenoid terminal nuts with a wrench and pull the wires off the terminals.


7. Remove the brush-end bracket bolts with a wrench. Remove the starter bolts from the Bendix housing with a wrench.

Starter Removal

1. Lawns the Blazer on a equivalent surface and fix the parking brake. Avow the Motor lorry to chilling completely.



8. Slide the brush-end bracket onto the studs. Install the nuts and tighten them to 97 inch-pounds with a 1/4-inch torque wrench.


9. Occupation the current starter in position against the engine. Thread the inboard starter bolt in by artisan and sanction it loose. Contain the shims. Install the brush-end bracket bolt by plam and allowance it loose. Install the outboard starter bolt and tighten all three of these bolts to 32 foot-pounds with a 3/8-inch torque wrench.

12. Slip the exhaust tube onto the catalytic converter. Lift the tube into position and slide the tube flange onto the exhaust manifold studs. Brush the studs lightly with a steel brush to remove any hefty rust scale. Install the stud nuts and tighten them securely with a wrench. Install any hangers or supports with a wrench.


13. Position the brace on the engine. Install the brace bolts and tighten them securely with a wrench.


14. Elevate the front of the vehicle with the jack and remove the jack stands. Lower the vehicle to the ground.
