Switch The Starter Solenoid On The 2003 Mercury Sable

When you turn the ignition in your 2003 Mercury Sable, it sends an electrical charge from the battery to the starter solenoid. The solenoid then turns on the Engine inside of the starter. This channels happens in an immediate; provided it doesn't, your vehivle Testament not initiate. Over period, the electrical pulses foundation to weaken. Replacing the solenoid is the exclusive expedient to resolve the matter. Unfortunately, Mercury attaches the solenoid to the top of the starter, so in progression to alter the solenoid, you must remove the starter.


Instructions


1. Remove the antagonistic battery cable from the battery with a 9/16-inch wrench and wrap it with a shop rag to prevent inadvertent grounding.


2. Fix the starter under the engine on the Chauffeur's side of the Mercury Sable. It mounts to the ring housing between the engine and the transmission. It is 10 inches in length and all over 4 inches in width. Pull up on the locking tab and pull on the harness.7. Unscrew the two bolts that secure the starter solenoid to the starter with the 9/16-inch wrench.8.



Unscrew the three bolts that secure the starter to the bell housing with a 5/8-inch socket.


5. Pull the starter out. The starter has a gear sticking out of it that meshes with the flywheel in the bell housing.


6. Remove the wiring harness from the starter solenoid. It has one goodly nigrous ground wire connected to the back of it.3. Remove the sizeable black ground wire with a 9/16-inch wrench.4.



Pull the old solenoid off the starter and set the new solenoid into place. Secure it with the 9/16-inch bolts.


9. Push the wiring harness into the solenoid and push down on the locking tab.


10. Slide the gear on the starter into the bell housing and secure it with the three bolts.


11. Reconnect the black ground wire then reconnect the negative battery cable.
