When a quarter panel has rust holes, the boon form to locate the damage is with latest stage metal.
The first approach to allot rust holes inside a motorcar's quarter panel is to remove the rusted areas and add distinct page metal welding against the original metal. If you have welding supplies, you can complete this project yourself. However, if you are unfamiliar with welding or metal patching, this is a job best left to professional body mechanics.
Instructions
1. Sand the rusted area of the quarter panel with a disc sander and a rough grit sandpaper to remove as much of the rust from the metal as possible. Place tack welding strips every 3 inches along the patch.7. Weld the patch in place starting with the tack strips.
Try to make the holes as small as possible for easy repair. Alternatively, you can remove the entire quarter panel and replace it with a new panel.
3. Coat the quarter panel with rust inhibitor to prevent the spread of the rust.
4. Drill a small hole into the original panel piece and the patch pieces every 3 inches along each side.
5. Clamp the patch pieces in place with welding clamps. Try to hide the seams between the two pieces of metal by lining the pieces up as closely as possible.
6. Wear a dust mask and safety goggles to protect yourself as you work.2. Cut out the rusted areas of the metal with the cut-off wheel.
Weld a new seam between the patch piece and the original metal so that there are no gaps between the metal pieces.
8. Sand the metal with the disc sander until the patch sits smoothly over the original metal with little visible difference in thickness or height.
9. Fill in any low areas with epoxy body filler to make the patch invisible to the naked eye. Allow the filler to dry for 12 hours, then sand to a smooth finish. Prime and paint the quarter panel to match the rest of the vehicle.
