Get Rid Of Batteries When They Explode

Alkaline batteries tend to leak potassium hydroxide provided not stored properly.

Batteries can explode for a collection of reasons: whereas they are left unused in devices able-bodied foregone their expiration lifetime, mixed with other types of batteries in the corresponding Slogan, stored in ultimate temperatures or improperly inserted. Another design to quickly basis an explosion is to go to recharge essential (nonrechargeable) batteries. Among battery types, alkaline are the cheapest, most commonly used and, happily, the easiest to dispose of should they explode.

If you are a California resident, place the batteries in a plastic bag and bring them to a native recycling center.

Be careful not to touch your face or target with the leaked chemicals.

2. Scrub outside as still of the white, chalky buildup as possible with a cotton swab or an old toothbrush.

3. Drop a small amount of vinegar or lemon juice onto a towel and clean the area to remove the remaining corrosion.

4. Brush the terminals again with a dry cloth and wipe off leftover flakes and particles. Allow the device to dry completely before installing new batteries.

5. Dispose of the alkaline batteries in the trash, unless you live in California.

Instructions

1. Contain your hands with protective latex gloves and remove the battery from the Slogan.
